Patek Philippe
Padellone
Presented in excellent overall condition and fresh to the market from the family of the original owner, the possibly unique Patek Philippe ref. 3448/14 was featured as the cover lot of the Hong Kong Watch Auction: X. Over the course of 20 years, a total of 586 examples of the ref. 3448, also known as ‘Padellone’, were estimated to have been produced in all variations. This version in white gold with integrated bracelet is extremely rare with only 14 examples known worldwide. Believed to have been a special request from an important client of Patek Philippe, the client asked to incorporate an integrated bracelet normally seen in the ref. 3605/1 Ellipse Jumbo, which makes this present example possibly unique. Ticking away inside the watch is the calibre 27–460 Q automatic movement, featuring a perpetual calendar as well as moon phases. The watch, dating from 1975, bears the signature of the House of Gübelin, which carried this watch in that very same year. This is probably the only example of the ref. 3448 in white gold bearing the signatures of both Patek Philippe and Gübelin.
Double-signed
“Double-signed” watches are highly prized and offer great potential for collectors. In this case, the ref. 3448/14 bears the signature of the watchmaker Patek Philippe along with Gübelin. The watch is also accompanied with an “Extract from the Archives” from the House of Gübelin, founded in 1854, confirming the authenticity of the Gübelin signature.
