Gübelin &
Artgèneve
This year marks the tenth anniversary of the art expedition Art Genève. Over the last few years, the art fair has continued to grow and consolidate, and it has established itself as a high-end, internationally renowned contemporary and modern art fair based in the Geneva Lake region.
Artgenève welcomes international galleries and devotes a significant portion of its space to public and private collections. As an official partner, the House of Gübelin strives to strengthen its relationship with the prestigious event further and is proud to present the artistic masterpiece "Flaming Grace" at this year’s fair.
Inspiration
Inner Realms
Gübelin Jewellery creations are based on the House’s unique Deeply Inspired philosophy, which unites beauty, knowledge and craftsmanship in unprecedented ways. A philosophy that is represented by the single ruby that finds its way into every divine Gübelin creation. Under a microscope, coloured gems reveal their unique and spectacular inner lives, which formed throughout millions of years. The art of high-resolution photomicrography allowed us to immerse ourselves in the fascinating inner world of the rare padparadscha sapphire from Sri Lanka and discover its hidden internal beauty. The unique colours, shapes and structures within the gemstone serve as inspirations for Gübelin Jewellery's one-of-a-kind creations.
Flaming Grace
The Design
Applying this unique technique, revealed a reminiscent to the lightness and the grace of a stunning flamingo's wings. Flamingos are native to Sri Lanka, the Island of Gemstones, and their elegant stature embodies grace and poise. The concept for the harmonious design of our new masterpiece was created based on this unique combination of shapes and colours. The arrangement of 54 multi-coloured brilliant-cut and baguette-shaped sapphires and 224 diamonds, presents the beautiful colour of the 9.03 ct padparadscha sapphire from Sri Lanka to excellence.
Collaboration
Thomas
Liu Le Lann
Gübelin is working with the Geneva-born artist Thomas Liu Le Lang on this year's artgenève. The award-winning artist is an expert in post-war and contemporary art. His work seeks to invalidate masculinity by emphasising the progressive traits of softness, fragility, and passivity. The booth at the fair was also designed by the artist, which adds another dimension to the collaboration. The featured green design represents the green jungle of Sri Lankan, which is the origin of our masterpiece's padparadscha sapphire.
Common Inspiration
The
art piece
Artist Thomas Liu Le Lann exhibits his glass sculpture «Before Shade and Indifference; Kunstbot IV; Aurora Capsule», which, like his previous three Kunstbot sculptures, was blown from glass and draws inspiration from the 1980s in the form of space robotics. He reduces the expression of a technical object and its inability to function as such to pure formalism through his art. The art object's colours, a translucent pink and an opaque orange were inspired by the same rare padparadscha sapphire that served as inspiration for our masterpiece "Flaming Grace".
Experience
The Inspiration
The art pieces «Before Shade and Indifference; Kunstbot IV; Aurora Capsule» as well as the jewel «Flaming Grace» will be displayed during the four days of the art fair in Geneva's Palexpo.
