Gübelin Coloured Gem Professional - The Basics introduces you to the emotional, historical and gemmological basics of the “Big Three”: emerald, ruby and sapphire. Listen to their stories and learn about the history of these important gemstones. Learn about their key gemmological characteristics, and understand their main valuation criteria. An invaluable introduction to anyone interested in or wishing to expand their knowledge about coloured gemstones.
Our online program is divided into four different modules: “The Basics: Scratching the Surface”, “The Basics: Emerald”, “The Basics: Ruby” and “The Basics: Sapphire” which you can enroll separately by module. Built as a self-paced learning platform, our online courses give you the liberty to attend the course whenever you want and follow it at your own pace.

Outcome
Each module is specially designed to provide you with a unique learning experience during which you will gain a strong foundation of the topics covered. At the end of each module, a short test will validate your course (75% passing requirement), upon which, if successfully completed, you will receive a certificate in PDF format.
After successful completion of all four modules, you will receive your hard-copy “Coloured Gem Professional - The Basics” digital certificate. Should you wish to receive your certificates as hardcopies, please kindly get in touch with us and we will happily organise it for you (CHF80). You are then entitled to sign up for the subsequent level: Gübelin Coloured Gem Professional - Level 2, which is the next step up in exploring emeralds, rubies and sapphires. The completion of Level 2 will entitle you to proceed with Gübelin Coloured Gem Professional - Level 3, the practical culmination of the Coloured Gem Professional. To attend these two courses, students will need to attend the physical classes at one of our campuses. The Basics
Scratching the Surface
In this very first chapter, learn the fundamentals of coloured gemstones with a focus on the “Big Three”, emerald, ruby and sapphire. Learn the gemmological basics of coloured gemstones and the key valuation criteria to appreciate their value. A solid and essential foundation for all gem enthusiasts.

In this section, you will be introduced to ruby, the “King of Gems”. Surround yourself with stories and myths about rubies, and learn the key valuation criteria for this gorgeous red gemstone. The duration of the module is at approximately 3 hours but you can follow the course at your own pace.
